All,
I was immediately surprised at how weak and 'auroral' all the signals were
for the first 45 minutes or so. I doubt if I could have worked a lot of the
stations on SSB. I was using a vertical though, and kept on wishing that I'd
got a dipole up too. On the whole it appears that we may have a slight
advantage being a little further away from the action up here. Clive POI
seemed to be doing well. I spent the first 20 minutes on S&P, then CQ'ed
when I got to a clear patch. When that dried up I carried on up the band,
returning occasionally to call CQ, and using the second VFO to call others
further up the band. I only worked one or two stations in the QRS corral,
and didn't think it was something which worked, but those who tried calling
CQ there will know better. Sadly I didn't work any M3's and I think I may
have only worked one dupe, although I may indeed have worked a G3CWI and a
G4CWI.
I only just checked the rules this evening to find that I was running too
much power, so mine will be a check log. No one would have heard me
otherwise!
So 87 QSOs using an FT1000MP, an amplifier and a 1/4 wave vertical.
