Sat in the shack Saturday evening listening to all the activity. The band
was buzzing but I only had my AFS antenna, an 80m dipole at 50ft,
nevertheless many Eu stns were peaking 20-30dB over 9. On Sunday I went out
and extended the legs, then went out again to add another 5ft on to the far
end to bring the SWR down to the manageable level somewhere mid-band.
>From 1520 -2302, in between chores and dinner, (I remembered to switch the
oven on this time) and watching Top Gear, I worked 100 stations by S&P. My
noise level was too high to have heard the weaker stations. All Eu, though I
did hear VE1ZZ calling someone, Jack was a good 20 over. I was disappointed
to find so few serious UK guys. Only 8 in my log. DL and OK account for 12%
each though I heard many more. I would guess typically 25% each.
I am not keen on the 48 hour format for this event but having said that
there seemed plenty of activity. Worth considering a more serious effort
next year with some beverages and a K9AY.

Got caught out this year with this being the 'last' weekend in January - so
it clashed with XYL's birthday and a family get-together at our daughter's
100+ miles away (must e-mail CQ organisers with all the family birthday
dates!!)
Managed a 2 - hour session on Saturday sunrise and another 3 hours on Sun
eve. Condx seemed reasonable and I elected to go S & P, unassisted, LP.
Wasted a lot of that trying to bag FM5, JY9 and A45 - all missed, my long
wire and 100W just couldn't break the pile ups. Managed VP5 and as far in
as ND and IL in W-land.
Could have increased my QSO's by CQing at the end as Nigel 'TXF did - but I
really wanted JY9 and A45 for new ones :-(
QSO's 128: DX mults 35: NA Mults 6: Claimed 28,413.
