Right! Now we've only got two 80m sessions left, this is a plea to
contesters old and new to put those contesting skills to good use in the
IARU Radiosport contest which takes place this coming weekend, 1200-1200UTC.

GB5HQ is the RSGB Headquarters station, which will be made up of twelve
stations in ten different locations around the country, operating
simultaneously on all band/mode slots 160-80-40-20-15-10, phone and CW.

We'd like lots of UK participation in this contest, and in particular
we'd like as many Gs as possible to work GB5HQ on as many band/mode
slots as possible. The aim for GB5HQ is to win the headquarters section:
last year in our first serious attempt in this section, GB5HQ came a
close second to the German national society DA0HQ, and the French
station TM0HQ was not far behind. The Germans in particular get an
incredible level of support from within their country, but with a
comparable level from the UK we know we can beat them!

Please get in touch with your club members, not just the 80m CC
operators, and ask them to support us. All ten sites (listed below) will
be connected via the Internet to a central log server, using Writelog.
This means that if you call us on one band/mode we should be able to let
you know which other frequencies we're on at that moment.

There will be a *prize* of £10 RSGB book tokens for the first three
stations to work us on all twelve band/modes. The same prize will also
go to the first M3 to work us on ten band/modes. That's a tall order,
but we believe it can be done.

In addition to the above, there is an award programme for working us on
a minimum of three, six, nine or all twelve band/mode slots. Full
details are on the web site www.gb5hq.com.

The exchange in the contest is RS(T) and ITU zone - the UK is in zone
27. HQ stations give their national society abbreviation instead of
zone, so in our case it'll be 59(9)RSGB. Full rules are at
http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2004/iaru.html

I hope that all of you can spend some time in the contest, and that you
will make sure to work the RSGB HQ station on as many slots as possible.

GB5HQ Coordinator
