Having bought a new Dell laptop I was surprised to find that it did not have a 9 pin D type connector only USB connection!
I bought initially a lead plus piece of software that was supposed to convert to  the usual RS232 interface for my FT847 BUT it was impossible to get it to work!!
On this site I found ref to Microham OM7ZZ products and hence bought the relevant unit which arrived yesterday and works FB the service was excelllent they wired it for my FT847 and the set up instructions provided enabled me to get it running and I know very little about software and computers!
The only problem now is that if I am not using coax feed on 80M the noise level from the PSU in the Dell Inspirion 1150 is very high on LF bands so I guess I may need to consider a linear PSU.
