[UK-CONTEST] Cushcraft 2/40cd

Hi Steve,
I actually spent Saturday putting my 402CD back up after the winter. I have
seen exactly this problem and it was the balun. I would suggest making sure
that the coax you are using is a good match to a dummy load at the antenna
feed point. Then connect the feeder direct to the driven element without the
balun initially. Then, if it needs tuning, tune it at that stage about 5 ft
off the ground, then connect balun and see if it changes tuning. It was very
strange when my balun went because it actually caused the antenna to
resonate perfectly around 6880kHz. I spent a good while re-tuning it! Now
it's back the way it was with a working balun.
So, that that means that all my baluns over the last 3 years have failed
except the one I made myself using RG58 and ferrite tubes (bought at
Weinheim a while ago) and a piece of plastic pipe. I have now reverted to
using coiled coax. Heavy, but effective.

Hi -

Another request....is anyone using a cushcraft 2 ele 40meter beam?. If so
have you experienced any problems getting it to tuen correctly?.

We have just spent last Saturday getting ready for WPX next weekend and are
having trouble with the beam, the SWR wont come below 1.9/1..we are using a
balun strapped under the boom at the feed point. We have checked all the
measurments which are correct and taken the whole thing to bits again and
double checked all the joints are correct.

Any ideas anyone.....
