Maybe have a look at the scoring-system on the
WRTC2006 web-site?
Scores are mulitplied by 0.90 for Low Power categories,
by 0.80 for Single-Band, by 0.90 for Assisted category.
Being an operator at M/S is 0.80, M/2 is 0.75, M/M is 0.60.
There are also bonusses for winning the contest, setting
records etc
All scores are determined by comparing your result against
only others in the same category - so if you were Low Power
then only other LP stations are ranked to determine your
position.
Perhaps your cynicism is misplaced.
