[UK-CONTEST] Run Freq on 40m

Although I didn't mention it in my CQ WW post, I remembered as soon as I had sent it that I wanted to mention filters! Strange. Since last year I have upgraded the MP with the Inrad IF Mod (not roofing filter) and two 250hz Yaesu filters, as well as cascaded 400hz Inrads and the original Collins in the 2nd rx. I was astounded at the difference. I was able to squeeze in where previously I was unable. I even played with this to see of I could find a space with 400hz, failed, looked again with the 250hz and had little problem finding space, and hearing stuff. I was then slightly paranoid that I might be squeezing the guys beside me, but then, they've done that to me, and many still did in spite of 250hz and DSP. They probably had Orions ;-) My tactic when this happens is to call CQ repeatedly, with little space between, so I can force the usurper to move away. I also do it because the stations who call me (and I do hear them) and get no response from me will also force him to move. In fact the more who call the better. There is logic to it although it may not sound like it. The technique works within about 5-6 CQs.
As an addendum to my last post, I would say the things that made the difference for me this weekend were the 250hz filters, the IF mod, the beverages and the noise cancelling phones.

Nothing wrong with just the standard MP filters i.m.o., that's not why I got
rid of the beast. It plays all the right notes in the right order, just
doesn't make sweet music.

I had no trouble holding 7005 e.g from 23:00 until stop-tap on Sunday. That
was with the IC7400 set at 450Hz on the DSP. I was run off 7007 by the
gratuitous tactics of HA80IARU, but then I am a Derringer to his Magnum of
course! 250Hz is way too narrow for contesting i.m.o. Don't waste your money
on INRAD filters. Your present set-up is perfectly adequate.
