Hi Dave,
Is that the roofing filter board you are referring to?
Did you have the Inrad hiss reducing board in your rig, if you did and
removed it to fit the roofing filter did the "hiss" come back? (I
gather you can't fit both boards at the same time).

I have an FT1000mp MKV with the 70MHz Inrad hiss reduction board already
fitted and I also have a roofing filter on order. Oddly enough I have
never used an MP that didn't have the hiss reducing board so I don't
know how bad the problem was, is the trade off between hiss and close in
bandwidth worthwhile?

Has any one else experience of the performance trade off with two
boards?

The problem is some stations were able to do just this; others were not!

I couldn't; no-one came back. This is with my same antenna that did very
well in AFS CW; and OK in SSB also!

I can hear Stewart saying "now you know what it is like to be a GM "!!!!

Could have given up . like Don, but stuck it out.

BTW - 3 locals came on the band unusually; one who put the S meter bars
right up to the end. Glad I put the INRAD board in at the weekend

Yes, totally agree. If the contest is a 'challenge' then it's working.
If
it's like sitting and shooting fish in a barrel, then it's not a
contest. To
win contests by sitting and calling CQ is not a good reflection of
operator
skill (both in the use of the equipment and the use of propogation).

Not at all tongue in cheek; I agree entirely with SVL and for us in
Leicestershire we are at a disadvantage at this time of year. The
critical
frequency does not seem to be following any known pattern so the January
and
February contests are actually useful.

I would like the contest to stop in May so that we can deal with our
planning and operation of HF and VHF NFD

Hmm, tongue in cheek, methinks! JJ

For that reason alone I would vote to keep the Jan/Feb contests so we
learn
more about how to deal with such condx.
