The BTYahoo Geocities webspace where your site is hosted has two
major problems. The most significant is that the traffic is limited
to just a few Mb per hour (they quote what sounds a reasonable
monthly traffic but it is calculated hourly and once exceeded access
is blocked until the end of that hour). When I tried to access it I
got half of the images then it exceeded the limit and told me in no
uncertain terms when I tried to access the full results. The second
problem is that Geocities insert adverts in the page, but in my case
they are conveniently filtered by the large 'hosts' file I have for
that purpose. Another issue is that the URL contains the users email
address, which could be a spam issue.
Bob, depending on the BTInternet package you have you might
investigate if you have some of the original BTInternet webspace
(http://www.btinternet.com/~username). This is not advertised as
being available for new customers but as far as I know is in fact
still available - my site and the Bracknell ARC site is there. This
has none of the Geocities problems, though its ftp server is somewhat
flakey at times.
Of course compressing some of the images to reduce their size would
also help a bit.
