[UK-CONTEST] [FOC] BERU !

Due to other commitments I couldn't do more than spend an hour on Sunday
morning in BERU this year. That won't stop me expressing my view....again!
BERU is a great contest despite its irritation to many who are ineligible to
participate. Some say it's an anacronism. I would say it's a tradition.
However, I see no reason why the rules should not be changed to make the
operating segment run from 010 to 040 on 80/40 metres to prevent
unecessarily annoying non participants. Yes, other DX contests use the
bottom 10 kHz on these bands but the activity level in CQWW and WPX etc make
it somewhat unavoidable where as in BERU it does not.
Making contacts between UK stations count for points in BERU would undermine
the nature of the event creating an entirely different contest. What's the
point in that? There are very admirable trophies available to UK stations
only, which well recognise the element of inter UK competition and the
significant achievement of UK operators in the event.
Apart from the 010-040 change we should leave the event just as it is.
