I really enjoyed last night. It's the first time I used my new 80 meter loop
and also the first time I stuck to my guns and stayed on the same freq for
90 minutes. I used my second VFO to work G3NLY (bottom of band) and M0WLF
(who was just above me).

I do wonder if being in the middle of the country helps (Solihull). I
finished off with 120, my best score so far - and had a good laugh to boot.

I'm hoping to be M5W this weekend for a single band entry on 40 however I'm
getting grief from XYL. Can't live without 'em though!

139 Qs. A very busy session. I have been using these events this year to
hone up on specific aspects of operating, in particular, short bursts of
high Q/H rate so it was good to see 32 in the log after 10 minutes, 192/H. I
was amused to get a double take from G3TKF, who came back a few Qs later and
asked if I had started at One. Yes! Writelog and the microHam keyer works
well on both modes, though again I found I preferred the manual method in
faster sessions rather than hitting F keys. I had recorded a fast CQ but
interestingly once the peak rate had dropped off I found that many operators
couldn't handle faster operating techniques. I understand this for CW but
must say was slightly surprised on phone so I adjusted my voice speed
accordingly.

Only had one instance of rank poor operating but that was before the contest
when someone insisted on calling me "My Friend" and told me what his name
was "This way" Yuk. I settled on 3773 initially but had to move down
slightly when a well station yet again came within 1.5KHz with a very wide
signal. He seems to be getting quite a reputation for doing this as others
have also commented in past contests. I was deliberately QRMd by an SSTVer
who also resorted to CQing on CW. OZ something, I wasn't really
concentrating. After he went a couple of DLs started very close on my LF
side so I decided to go S&P. I was amazed at how many stations there still
was available and 3600 to 3650 was very busy. Eventually ran out of time but
reckon there was at least another 15 to 20 UKs around.

Hopefully will be around in WPX using G8D depending on how good or bad the
wx is. Chris G3SJJ
