I was one (maybe the only one ?) who owned up to running the amp before the
contest (Alpha 91B) - Part to help keep the freq clear; part since it is a
new amp to me, that has seen no action so far other than to test it when I
bought it ! Anyone who was listening would have seen the signal drop when
the contest started!
Anyway; I was on 3647 if I remember correctly; and after the contest started
(and the amp off) ; I was immediately challenged by a Russian LF of me
(Doh!). He became more of a problem 30 mins in; and stayed for quite a
while; apparently untroubled.
Rates were good at the start; but then dropped off. I ended with 134 QSO's;
so not a great effort in the end
My feeling, having tried it, is this is too low in the band (I know BUO
reckons to have used it to good effect before; but I remain unconvinced -
higher up the better in future !)
Fun time as ever. Data modes is just right for me; will be away in Italy
next week (work); and back for CW event the following week!

What a great idea? But I don't have a linear :)

77Q's. Intended as a casual entry as it's difficult to run in a phone
contest in the same room as the XYL watching TV! So S&P only until the
final 15 mins when the TV program was over and I stumbled on a clear
frequency. It was that final 15 mins that I enjoyed most! Surprised how
well I was getting out with my OCF 1/2-wave inverted-V dipole, apex &
feed at 1/4 of overall length and up 30ft, ends at ~10ft.
No GM's heard. High level of QRN countered generally good inter-G
propagation.
Interesting tactic employed by some not only laying their towels on the
sunbed but pushing the adjacent ones further aside. I refer to the use
of linears whilst warming the frequency up beforehand. All's fair in love
and war - and contesting I suppose.
I wish I had been able to get on for more of the 80MCC sessions. Hope to see
you all in the CW leg.
