An ominous start. On Friday evening when I switched on my old but 
trusted 386 Toshiba laptop I found the display didn't light up. I 
assume the backlight bulb has failed.... I hastily dug out an old 
monochrome VGA monitor that I had been threatening to take to the 
skip the other day and connected that as an external monitor. 
Thankfully it worked, except the screen wobbled dramatically every 
time I transmitted on 10m! Guess I am looking for a slightly more 
modern replacement laptop.

Although conditions were forecast to be pretty mediocre, in the event 
it worked out well. Nice to hear 10m wide open Sunday 
afternoon/evening, almost like the good old days. Then I had a ball 
on 20m, ignoring the temptation to work through the static on 80m. 
All in all a great weekend, and showing again what can be done with 
simple setups. Very slightly down on last year's score, but it was 
very much a repeat performance, even down to working ZL6QH at 2140 on 
20m, virtually same time as last year!
