Firstly, well done Phil, it was hard going, I wonder if there is a
special prize for anyone that didnt fall asleep..
Station here was a pair of 1000mp's into a 10M dipole @20ft and a 15M
dipole @26ft, both dipoles were rotatable but were only 40ft apart.
Bandpass filters were a pair of coxial stub filters and I ran with both
rigs's ATUs inline. Switching was from a homebrew SO2R box and the
logging prog was Writelog.
I spent a lot of the time trying to master the SO2R technique, when you
have 4 VFO's to play with it can get a bit tricky.
This was the first year that I used the cluster in the SSB contest and I
used it to find one mult on 10M, S79, and a couple on 15M. The problem
of course is that with 100W/Dipoles you aren't on the top of the pile
and you can't be wasting time in a busy contest like this, my ratemeter
actually showed something like 'give up and go to the pub' so I did :-)
I have an Icom 756pro2 which is packed away and I think that would have
been better to use on 10M, you can watch the band scope for anything
that appears on 10m.
I ended up with:
Q M
21 48 28
28 21 7
69 35 = 7245
or something like that.
It was frustrating to hear 9+20/+30 Eu's in the pileup for the S79 on
10M but hardly anyone answered my CQs. I had a few stations call me on
15M and when I asked for a QSY to 10 they said 'no propagation' but when
they did eventually QSY they were 9+.
10M best DX S79, missed 5U, 9J, TZ as they were too weak on my dipole.
15M best DX YB, 5U, PY, ZS6, ZS3, TU.
Any yes, I did nod off just the once with the 15M rig on 'auto-CQ',,
it's a bit hypnotic when no one calls.
Darren...
