Bob rightly says the problem is one of "critical mass".
There are not enough UK contesters (and casual ops) to
sustain overseas interest in a UK-only 12-hour single-mode
2-band event.
That probably appplies at any time, but it's even more
relevant in sunspot minimum years.
Earlier this year I won the overseas section of the RSGB
1.8 MHz contest, even after giving up within 3 hours because
there was no one left to work.
If the 21/28 MHz contest does not change, it's likely to go
the way of the 7 MHz contest within 2 years.
Perhaps the REF contest might be worth emulating?
