Dear UK-Contest,
(Apologies if this appears twice - it bounced first time).
Oh dear: cluster-objectors hijacking the discussion, again. A minor FD
issue.
Let's stick to the big picture.
Only stations in the five FD countries have a national contest to enter at
present.
We want and need more activity from Eu countries so we need an EFD contest
that the rest of Europe can enter.
And NFD has far fewer participants than in years gone by. It needs to
evolve.
Let's not be parochial. We could start by agreeing to harmonise
non-contentious rules.
We could even harmonise all the rules but keep our own scoring.
Parallel-scoring is already happening.
Teams choose operating-tactics to compete in their preferred contest: RSGB
160/10m double-points or EFD mults.
Or tactics to maximise both. This provides an extra level of strategy and
skill, surely a good thing.
And let's not get side-tracked by 'it's a social event'. It certainly is
that but without the competition FD would wither.
Let's move forward. Let's support this momentum for an EFD while we have
the chance.
The HB9's + DL's seem ready to mount a proper contest: publish rules,
adjudicate, report results, send out awards etc etc.
Surely this can only be good for everyone - 73 de Roger/G3SXW.
