Hello all
Lots of interesting points being made, but it is significant that only
well-known contesters are responding to this 'consultation' - it would be
good to have some input from the silent majority here on this reflector.
The whole issue of whether HF NFD should be 'updated' raises much wider
issues which have been discussed here in the past. These are some of my
thoughts :
1. Some contests should be left as they are for the rest of their natural
life. BERU and HF NFD are old-fashioned, but so what - let's not bow to
European pressure to 'update' them. Because of the nature of HF NFD - CW and
/P - any Euro update is unlikely to have any effect on overall participation
from the UK.
2. You cannot 'train' new CW ops to become contesters - they have to be
self-motivated - I know several younger CW ops who are really keen to
improve their skills - RufzXP etc help, but they don't get enough
opportunities to work big pile-ups.
