START-OF-LOG: 2.3
CREATED-BY: TR Log POST Version 6.79
CONTEST: RSGB-AFS-CW
CALLSIGN: G4TSH
CATEGORY: SINGLE-OP 80M HIGH CW
CLAIMED-SCORE: 2660
CLUB: Echelford ARS
SOAPBOX: Strange activity this year I thought. No big peak in rate at the
SOAPBOX: beginning, but more of a steady flat rate for the first hour.
SOAPBOX: I though that there was low activity this year at this point.
SOAPBOX: Disaster struck in mid QSO with GM3WUX at 16:05 when the antenna
fell down!
SOAPBOX: The small cable tie holding the pully to the top of the pole broke.
SOAPBOX: I could still hear Terry calling me quite clearly, but he could
SOAPBOX: not hear me.
SOAPBOX: Lost about 20 minutes dropping the pole, reattaching the pulley
SOAPBOX: and untangling the ropes and wires from the shrubbery. I almost
gave up here.
SOAPBOX: When I came back on my original frequency was still clear!! But I
had
SOAPBOX: lost the rhythm so I went S&P for a while before settling down on
a run
SOAPBOX: frequency again. Ended up with 265, so not a total disgrace.
SOAPBOX: I wonder what the extra 20 minutes or so would have gained me.......?
SOAPBOX: Tended to run at lower CW speeds than usual, but this seemed to
result
SOAPBOX: in a more steady rate of callers, many of whom were obviously QRP
or QRS.
SOAPBOX: I keep doing better every year, but so does everyone else:-(
SOAPBOX: Band sounded very quiet, never had a problem of being squeezed
SOAPBOX: off my run frequency. One significant irritation was the quite large
SOAPBOX: number of callers who had to say hello and send my name.
SOAPBOX: Now I know it's nice and polite, but I am trying to keep the rate
up here!
SOAPBOX: Is it me or does this happen to anyone else?
SOAPBOX: Anyway thanks to all who called and my apologies for not calling
SOAPBOX: everyone back by name, usually because I did not know names off by
heart :-)
SOAPBOX: HNY to all, Justin.
