Yes, it's nice and polite. I'm not too keen in the first hour but after
that it isn't going to slow the rate down much and it's nice just to
acknowledge either someone you know well or a regular participant. I am
always aware that the other person might not want his rate slowed by
unneccessary drivel, eg "73 and good luck in the contest old man" so
tend to abbreviate like Jus or Der. I am quite happy receive ---- (short
for Oris!)or even OF!!
What I don't like is something more prevalent to the slower senders,
which then makes things even slower and can really slow the rate down
for an S&Per. I've mentioned it before. 73, 73, dit dit, dit dit, long
pause, CQ several times and at last, a callsign. Phew, hard work!!
