Jim: interesting about the pirate - and thanks for the direct email
earlier today. (Although your direct email didn't contain as much
information as that provided here.)
For the record, I was certainly active on 40m today - both this morning
and this afternoon, but I was definitely in the straight key part of the
CW section (according to my logbook, at about 7.034 MHz) trying to
improve my left-handed keying -- because my right hand is getting
steadily worse. And my left hand doesn't seem to be working quite right
either!
I do recall being QRMed by a data station (wideband stuff with a centre
frequency within a few hundred Hz of my CQ frequency) - but I wasn't
going to let it QRM me off the band. Perhaps the station you heard
wasn't a pirate at all - just an old guy standing his ground in the face
of a mugger.
