[UK-CONTEST] Good news

John and others
It's early days yet, and I have no preconceived ideas as to how this role
will pan out. In the past I have tried to avoid being nominated for the
Board (!) as it probably means more hassle than I need, and would take me
away from the rig. But I agreed to give it a whirl this time because I do
believe that the competitive side of amateur radio (DXing, contesting, ARDF)
is very important for the future and is not well represented at Board level
within the Society (as recent postings on here seem to confirm!).
As Colin says, one aspect will be to set up a Radio Sports forum to bring
together representatives of the the competitive aspects of amateur radio,
whether from within the Society or outside. I will also be a conduit between
the membership and the Board. And I hope I can kick off some initiatives to
address those areas where we are currently a bit weak or where our combined
efforts can bring improvements - for example to achieve consistency across
the piece in the way that contest logs are accepted, adjudicated and the
results published.
Wish me luck!
