[UK-CONTEST] UBA contest

Hi Jonathan,
I really like the football analogy.
The bad behaviour being discussed is not restricted to contests. Try listening to 3790 - 3799 when any DX shows up (especially something that isn't DX to Europe) or 14195 any day of the week. The fact that every DX-pedition is QRMed on 40m CW indicates that the culprits are experienced hams. They know CW, understand 'split' (which is more than some of the callers) and they're loud. So we're not talking about a bunch of CB'ers - these guys must be well known. The QRM-er I had to endure in AFS actually identified himself to me. What can I do about it? Not a lot. I e-mailed him and got even more abuse in return!

I am only a lil pistol in all of this, but yes I do realise this,
spending much time amongst many amateurs having no contest interests,
and I sympathise in the way that Lee described in his email
contribution to this thread earlier.
However its the action people take that concerns me...

Depends how they push back ...
There is NO excuse for the illegal obsene language that I heard being
used in AFS this year.
There is no excuse either for the recording and playing back
(pirating) which Callum described hearing.
It does strike me that sometimes you just have to be sensible about
what is realistic given the scale of what is happening around you -
not just in the radio contest context. I mean I don't tend to choose
to drive into the local town here on a Saturday at the same time as
supporters are likely to go to and from a home football match there
on days it is being played because the traffic is horrendous - I
don't care to go to the football but it simply disrupts my attempts
to drive my normal route at that particular time! So I simply choose
not to do that activity at that specific time. I don't use illegal
methods to either abuse the football fans or use bus lanes to get
around them! I just schedule my incompatible activity at a
different time!
Common sense really - and less puerile.
Just my 2p.
