[UK-CONTEST] 80M Clubs contest series and Northern Ops

Hi all,

Alex GM3ZBE made the point about the start time of the 80m CC's being too
early, especially for Northern contesters.
An interesting point, but I wonder if it does actually make that much
difference?
At 2130UTC (ie 10.30pm) there is still some light in the sky here, and
probably more so that far north.
I have worked GM's in most of those I have entered (CW and RTTY), so they
are around, but maybe the distance between us helps.

I am just wondering if it is his location that is making it more difficult,
as it is this far south. From here, it is extremely hard to get heard by
some on many of the CC nights, thus scores from here are generally much
lower.

Also, I suspect that the RSGB must be quite happy with the number of
entrants, especially as the bands are crammed with contesters. It is very
hard to find enough space to call CQ on any mode, so one has to wonder if
this contest hasn't reached saturation point?
I would also guess that some folk have dropped out, simply because they
cannot get a run frequency at the start, or that it has become too difficult
to get heard.

There is also the fact that we have some 70 - 80 miles of water to cross
before we even begin to find any stations!

Any other thoughts??
