It seems if I fell foul of the wise decision not to
allow attachments on this reflector.
I do not agree with Nigel but I am open to persuasion.
I hope some mechanism is re-introduced to distinguish
between genuine portable stations eg NFD etc and
temporary stations at an alternative address. I,
often, operate from my holiday chalet and have to sign
/portable which I am certainly not. I have mains and a
fixed antenna.
I accept that I should write to the local RA; I need
to get round to that but in the meantime I have to
operate /portable which I am certainly not.
There are many occasions when amateurs wish to operate
at a temporary alternative address and if they are on
mains and on fixed antennas it makes no sense to sign
/portable.
When I operated G3RIR/P on Monday night in CC80 I was
really portable and in JO02st 2miles from my chalet
and had a battery failure in the middle of the contest
and had to revert to the car battery with the engine
running for safety. It is a good job the rules didn't
demand no engine running as in back-packers!
When I am in my chalet I have mains but still have to
say /portable as I did last night in UKAC144.
Neil, G3RIR/P
(currently TG33 Norfolk or JO02su if you prefer)
normally SP58 Leics without the /P but with mains.
