[UK-CONTEST] GB5HQ

Just catching up on e-mails, and astounded at the comments which started
this thread.
RSGB does not organise GB5HQ. People do, giving up their time and efforts.
Sure, it represents the Society in a sense, but RSGB does not and cannot
control it. For example, John G3LZQ is here with us in Brazil, but kindly
volunteered his station for two bands. Not surprisingly, as his wife his
hosting, she doesn't want any Tom, Dick or Harry turning up, but people she
already knows and trusts. As it happens, they are all pretty good contest
ops, too! I feel sure a similar situation prevails for other volunteer
hosts. And the long period of testing and setup rules out Field Day style
stations such as MD6K. So the options are definitely limited.
I was referee at PT5L (YT6A and YT6T) and all GB5HQ stations I heard were
loud here and easily workable (WRTC stations were only on 80 through 10, and
required just one HQ station QSO per band, not one per mode, just in case
anyone wonders why they may not be in every GB5HQ log). The GB5HQ CW signal
on 10 was HUGE!
Regards from Florianapolis.
