I'm currently overseas too, and I'm an RSGB member, but I still like to stay in touch with the Motherland.
It's interesting to see the progress of the License and discussions about various contests and the talk about the involvement of the RSGB in contesting, contest organising issues in general, etc.
I believe that contesting in VK, by comparison to the UK, is somewhat the poorer relation. The amount of coverage of contesting matters within Radcom is much in advance of the coverage given in the WIA monthly magazine. And yes, I have offered to try and raise the profile a little while I'm in VK, by offering an additional pair of paws - but to no avail!
Geography makes life a little bit awkward here, as a multi-multi effort would be likely to involve significant travel for some participants. If I ever become fortunate enough to buy a slice of Australia of sufficient size, I'll certainly be offering an operating chair to those who want to participate in MM or M2 contesting. For the while, I'll have to make-do with 10/15/20 vertical and a homebrew 40m vertical. As for contesting, even the sheep can run faster than me....
Licensing issues in VK are also a little bit behind the UK, in my opinion. The mere suggestion of having 'contest calls' made available, brought howls of protest from some quarters, with cries of elitism etc.
The RSGB may not be perfect, but from my limited experience overseas, it's quite a bit ahead of some other National Societies it would appear! The ham organisation is ahead of the game too IMHO.
Your mileage may vary of course.
Cheers,
