I have to say that I strongly disagree with you Doug. I dont think the
object is to be representative, the object is to win. There is no point
in competing "at a lesser level".
Show me a "good looser" and I'll show you a looser!
This Contest is NOT for peoople who dabble in Contests
but for skilled and seasoned contesters who can hold their own in the melee.
You dont get rookies in Formula 1. There are many Contests available
throughout the year for budding contesters to hone their skills. Being
chucked in at the deep end does nothing for personal development and can
drag down the whole team. IARU is a team Contest where every member of the
team must pull their weight, or there is no point in taking part.
I personally dont Contest to be one of the pack. I enter the larger
Contests to win. I dabble in a lot of contests, CW, SB and RTTY just to
keep my skill level up.
