Hi
I went to this showing yesterday at the Cambridge Film Festival
(audience was about 5 of which two were other film makers! )
Anyway this is a 'nice' film and rather sympathetic to amateur radio.
But I came away with the idea that amateur radio was in some way 'old'
(images in a museum, people) and 'quaint' . Good bit on assembling a
receiver. though.
Why oh why didn't anyone come back to the 'CQ's ! from GB3(?)RS , why
didn't the operator call a few people! Couldn't we have set something up.
There was NO young person featured (or even middle aged well, OK there
was one ! but ...) and the voices were all male.
Voices heard included John G4IRN and plenty old CW in the sound track.
Weird choice of the image a guy who trying to access his local repeater
by standing out in the open air on the roof of his house - looked like
central London. And he didn't get a reply either.
We should get it screened at the HF Convention! It lasts 15 mins.
Don't get me wrong this isn't a 'Hancock' at all and it might well
appeal to the 'more mature' person.
However the interesting bit is that this is an outsiders view of amateur
radio.
(The other three films in this section of the Festival were very
strange, one was a silent montage about a house and theother about Kings
Lynn girls going up or should it be down to Kings Cross.)
