>>>that anyone wishing to participate make timely representation

As I did.

This is a private email to you, however you want all this in public
apparently:

Douglas, I am becoming particularly pi55ed off with you. You appear a grown
bloke with an interesting hobby *and* an opinion as regards how it should be
run.

That being the case, think about how you can help yourself. I thoroughly
recommend that you 1) Get some contest results under your belt, 2)
demonstrate that you are a team player by representing your club and making
sure that your contest chairman can give you a satisfactory reference and
then if you are still in the running 4) make a representation to GB5HQ team
- or any other team frankly that you think you might assist in winning a
long-haul contest.

Wriggling around like a lost soul on this reflector is making you look like
a real charmer.

Sort yourself out.

C.

Doug

Since you earlier expressed a desire for all communication on this to be via

the reflector, I am assuming you pushed the wrong button when you replied to

me directly with the attached message.

So far as I can tell, the management of GB5HQ in IARU has been handled by
the appropriate committee of the RSGB. This committee delegated the
co-ordinating task to a very well known and respected individual. A high
profile contester with over 30 years experience, who has also served as a
member of the HFCC for 25 years. I would find it difficult to criticise
that decision, were I motivated to do so.

As a distant observer, it is clear to me that such a co-ordinating task is
no small duty and will have required significant effort, time sacrifice and
dedication on the part of the co-ordinator. Likewise, those others involved

in preparation for the event. I believe they should be congratulated
wholeheartedly for their efforts.

Given that the dates for the IARU contest are public domain and published
far in advance of the event, I think it reasonable that anyone wishing to
participate make timely representation to either the chair of the HFCC or
the appointed co-ordinator, setting out clearly the nature of their
interest. I feel sure the co-ordinator, giving due regard to the event
objectives, would try his best to be accommodating.

Bob, 5B4AGN
