Hi Jim

We used a GPRS mobile phone in GB5HQ 2003 to connect to server in Martlesham see http://granta.digital-crocus.com/IARU03.php3

The phone bill for the contest, and all the Writelog testing in the weeks before, was £35.26.
We use N1MM now, but have only used broadband with MM so far.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] Telnet connection using MDS

I would like to connect to the telnet cluster using a pcmcia data card G3 or GPRS on a networked laptop in our forthcoming multi-op efforts. As we operate most of these events portable it is the only reliable way I can see of accessing the cluster.
Before we commit to this expense we need to know the following.
Will logging programs such as N1MM connect okay to the cluster using such a device?
As we pay be the Mb, what would be the ballpark figure for size of data transferred during a major 48 hour contest?
Are there any issues with this type of telnet connection and our wireless network?
Any pointers to where I can research this topic or any other guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim, MM0BQI
