Chris,
Your GM4 friend I believe lives on a farm with no immediate neighbours,
and the SRP was granted for experimental propagation purposes ? I can
tell you the regulations, especially those from Europe, have tightened
up quite alarmingly over the past few years and anyone living in an
urban environment is unlikely to be granted a SRP these days. Of
course we in the UK are one of the very few countries together with
Germany that actually take notice of EU legislation!
Mention 1 kW to any of the few remaining Ofcom field force and they
cringe. Mind you at the present rate there won't be any of those left
soon.
Ofcom are aware of the large amplifiers out there but are unlikely to
legalise them. Mind you it still doesn't stop us asking.
Belgium may use 1kW providing the BIPT is informed in advance of the event.
The highest legal permitted power in EU is 1.5kW which Hungary is just
introducing.
