I suppose it depends what your ratio of contesting to general
operating is. If you are 100% a contester and need to get away from
the wife and kids then a 450M separation from the distractions of
family life sound good to me!...
But if you like getting up, strolling into the shack and working DX
while you are getting ready for work then that 450M may as well be 45 miles.
For HF you could use 300-ohm twin feeder with a 6:1 balun on each
end, then as Chris said then into a remote antenna switch. The losses
in that wouldn't be too bad. You would just need to make sure the
twin was 'floating' and not lying on the ground.
