It's an odd ball Steve, but should be supported because it encourages
Club participation and exposes members to a competitive forum.

It was originated by the Verulam (St Albans) RS way before computer
logging and adopted by HFCC about 20 years ago. I think SD supports it
if you don't want a second computer and don't feel the need to keep an
eye on the DX Cluster, both of which you can do because it is a multi-op
event. But really with the small number of QSOs, say 100 to 140 over the
3 hours, it s hardly worth using computer logging. Good old paper log
sheets would just as effective!!

Gawd, he'll be telling us to double declutch next!

I use a combo of computer and paper. Any contest format that produces a
serial number and allows a serial number to be logged is adequate.

- Enter the callsign and incoming serial.
- On a sheet of A4 with numbers written down the side, scribble M for
Club Member, S for Club Station and N for Non Club, and then club name.

Now here's an interesting bit, and depends on how seriously you take it.
As a single op, for G0RGH, I would write down "Har", or G4FRS "Farn" or
Had or Lich. I could then write out in full later referring to the sheet
of last year's results I had printed out before the contest. Of course
if you have another person they could fill in the name in full whilst
you are working another station.

So what do you put in the Cabrillo file, remembering of course that it
won't be fully computer checked because of lack of software, (I think,
just to cover myself!!)

I had a bit of a tussle with a pedantic adjudicator as I didn't fill the
standard "& DARC" "RS" "ARS" etc. I suspect last year's club winner
probably added the info as given in the Callbook to produce an "accurate
log." Good thinking if you are near the top.

You can hear those laboriously trying to write down everything you say,
word for word, then question "did you say Association or Society?" it's
probably there in last year's results!!

I adjudicated the event several times in the old paper log days. It was
difficult to know what to penalise. I certainly never bothered with the
& DARC bit. At first I was pedantic that the Club name should be spelt
properly. After all, how many ways can you spell Farnborough, and surely
they know the name of their own Club? With the breakdown in spelling
over the last 2 or 3 years, that would be impossible. Doing it now, I
would accept anything that vaguely resembled Farbruf!!

It's a few hour fun contest, which requires a technical skill to see how
weak you can make your signal and support your Club. Give it a go!
