The great day has finally arrived, and Tower number one is being installed on Saturday.....well, the Concrete is being poured !
A quick question: The Tower is an old BXI Tower, that was originally post mounted.( I cut the post at ground level to remove it, (its the one from your neck of the woods, Dave) and have since had a 1 Metre Square sheet Steel plate (28mm thick) welded to the post, complete with fillets. So it now looks like a Base type of mount. (Typical Versatower)).
Anyway, as I havn't any documentation for the tower, so.... I am going to pour C35 Grade concrete into a 1m X 1m X 1m hole. The retaining studs that run through the base plate and into concrete, are made of 35mm studding, 85cm long (75cm in concrete). Each length of studding has a 15cm Square plate (28mm thick) welded to its base. The idea being that the Square plate will anchor the stud (and the base plate) to the concrete.
Each of the Four Studs will be held in place by a wooden frame, the concrete being poured in, and around the studs, and the frame removed after the concrete has gone off.
Two Questions:
Given the mast will be guyed with Steel Rope, does the above seem OK ?
I want the studs to have some "play" (not much say 10 mm or so, just to allow instalation) so I plan on wrapping them in some foam piping (sort of thing to insulate lofts) for the top 30cm or so. Does this sound reasonable ?
