Had a play on the contest this weekend - nothing too serious as my
main purpose was to assess the performance of the ZX2000 minibeam (5m
max element, 2m boom), that Chris 'SJJ and Dave G3UEG help me put up
the day before the HFC, against my DX77 vertical.

Bottom line is that the beam was always better - even if it wasn't
pointing directly at the station I was calling. Perhaps this is
because the beam is at 30ft whereas the vertical base is 7ft above
ground and I have 40 - 50ft oak trees around the garden edge, the
difference was more than the theoretical few dB's. I now realise
what I've been missing!

Only worked daylight hours plus a couple of hours Sun eve as we had
social commitments and I took breaks to help Jenny in the garden -
but rough outcome looks like this (all S & P - no CQ's, no runs):

Band QSO Pts Cty Zone
40m 62 83 39 9
20m 182 289 66 18
15m 103 188 50 16
10m 85 114 36 8

Total 432 674 191 51 = 163,108 pts

That's not going to threaten anyone, but I proved what I needed and
got a few new countries into the computerised log. Roll on CW leg.

73 Chris G3SVL
