The Denso tape manufactured by Sylglas isn't really used in professional
rigging any more. Certainly several site owner / operators have banned
it for many years as it is alleged that it has carcinogenic properties.
Of course it still has a special place (under your fingernails usually)
in folklore as the best method of waterproofing cables.
There are better methods available.. and that's what the industry has
moved on to.
Ian's original request was for a completely different substance which is
a black butyl putty supplied on a greaseproof paper roll. All of the
main players sell it Andrew, RFS, H+S, Times uWave, Comscope etc..
It should be applied in a similar way to self amalgamating tape and
should be protected with an over wrap of PVC to "contain" the resulting
black sticky goo that is the result.
I don't specify it for connectors or earthing kits that have to be
dissembled for test or inspection. In these cases hard shell
waterproofing is more practical.
Regards Paul
