Lee asked:
"Whilst I do see a lot of contest booklets etc., I'm
still in the dark regarding most national society
magazines contesting coverage. We've heard about the
excellent REF magazine coverage in the past, and I
think most people are aware of the ARRL QST coverage,
but when discussed previously I said this was a very
small sample size to compare RadCom with, and we've
not heard anything else since. Can anyone contribute?"
The May/June issue of 'The Canadian Amateur' (6 issues
annually) has 72 pages plus cover. There are 10 pages
directly related to contest results and rules. There
is also a four page article on RTTY contesting. The
contest pages include results and writeups for all
Canadian entrants in CQ WPX 2006, Russian RTTY 2006,
ARRL June 2006 VHF QSO Party, ANARTS RTTY 2006, CQ-M
2006, DL-DX RTTY 2006, Manchester Mineira AA CW 2006,
Florida QSO Party 2006, and 9 others which only had
one or two VE entrants. Three of the pages are a
detailed description of the Canadian results in the
2006 North American Field Day, and another three are
rules for the 2007 Canada Day Contest (one of these is
a repeat in French).
I am not sure that it is really fair to compare the
two journals. TCA has difficulty in filling its space
and there are only 10 full advertising pages including
the covers. Whilst the technical content in Radcom has
regrettably been reduced over the years it is mostly
(but by no means always) of a higher standard than
TCA.
I personally have no problem with articles on LF or
moonbounce - at least people are passionate about some
aspect of the hobby - but much of the stuff in Radcom
in recent years seems to me to be of no interest to
anyone!
