Erm full output ?????
Surely an amp rated for 1kw should easily handle a 48hr contest on CW at
400w ;-)
I was torn between the Expert 1k and the Acom 1000 and after talking to Ron
at Vine I decided to go for the Acom as it would easily handle the 400w RTTY
in contest mode, I've not looked back, a fantastic amp that plodded along in
CQWW this year.

I had one for 2 weeks, after which the PA failed. It was put down to
problems with static handling precautions at the factory but despite
its rave reviews on eham I didn't really like the amp much. At
anything like heavy use all the fans make a great deal of noise. I
also has a membrane switch front panel so the feel of the switches
isn't great. Finally, the QSK is done with conventional relays - a
bit noisy and I can't believe that they will have a great operating
life. I got my money back and bought an Acom 1000 - love it. Not the
ideal contest amp if you need to switch bands a lot but romps along
at full power and is very quiet - both in terms of the fan and the
vacuum relay. Bigger of course, but for a base station I think it's
the better bet, and better value.
