www.rttycontesting.com - AA5AU's excellent tutorials and macro examples.
He knows exactly what he's doing, and explains exactly why.
Having got RTTY functioning, the next tricky bit is to set up the
keyboard macros. This is something of an art, because the shortest
messages don't necessarily get you the highest rate. The aim is to be
prepared for most eventualities.
The examples that AA5AU gives are be WriteLog-based, so if you have WL
you can follow them exactly. The RSGB CC exchange is serial-only, so you
can use the WPXRTTY macros (just change the contest name).
If you have N1MM (www.n1mm.com) the macro syntax is a bit different from
WL, but the following should do. No point in explaining every detail,
but every detail matters, so just copy and paste it into a blank ascii
file called RSGBDATA.mc and save it in the N1MM directory.
F1 CQ,{TX}{ENTER}CQ CC DE * * CQ {ENTER}{RX}
F2 Exch,{TX}599 # # {RX}
F3 TU,{TX}{ENTER}! TU DE * CQ {ENTER}{RX}
F4 MyCall,{TX}{ENTER}DE * {RX}
F5 HisCall,{TX}{ENTER}!
F6 Nr?,{TX}{ENTER}! NR? NR? {RX}
F7 Agn,{TX}{ENTER}! AGN AGN {RX}
F8 MyC x2,{TX}{ENTER}DE * * {RX}
F9,-
F10 Nr is,{TX} # # # # # {RX}
F11 QRZ,{TX}{ENTER}QRZ? QRZ? DE * {RX}
F12,-
F1 CQ run,{RUN}{TX}{ENTER}CQ CC DE * * CQ {ENTER}{RX}
F2 Exch,{TX}{ENTER}! DE * TU 599 # # {ENTER} {RX}
F3 TU (opt),{TX}{ENTER}TU 73 {RX}
F4 MyCall,{TX}{ENTER}* * {RX}
F5 HisCall,{TX}{ENTER}! {RX}
F6 Nr?,{TX}{ENTER}NR? NR? {RX}
F7 Agn,{TX}{ENTER}AGN AGN {RX}
F8 MyC x1,{TX}{ENTER}* {RX}
F9,-
F10 Nr is,{TX} # # # # # {RX}
F11,-
F12,-
Assuming you already know how to set up a contest in N1MM, pick up this
macro file on the Associate tab. Don't forget to type 001 (nothing more,
nothing less) in the Sent Exchange field.
I don't know how much WL has come on in recent years, but RTTY in N1MM
is really smooth these days. Left-click pops the callsigns and serials
into the exchange box (they know where to go) and right-click does ESM.
However, Monday evening is a bit tight to prepare for Wednesday, so
maybe you should think of this month as your shakedown!
