> Just operate in ways with which YOU are comfortable. And enjoy it!
That's exactly the point Roger. At the moment as a single op. I can
operate in CQWW phone and CW, and ARRL DX, IOTA etc. without packet and
know I'm competing against others similarly equipped, so I can enjoy it.
Abuse is not rampant, and the organisers have become proactive in DQing
or moving to another section those found cheating.
Contests like WAE, RDXC, WPX RTTY have removed my choice. There is no
section in which I'm comfortable to operate, so I don't. You're a member
of the CQ WW advisory committee and I'm very alarmed to see you
supporting the shooting-fish-in-a-barrel mode in this way.
This argument has been done to death many times on uk-contest and,
especially, on cq-contest. And every time, certainly on cq-contest, the
majority are clearly AGAINST merging assisted and unassisted categories.
You have no mandate to destroy the CQWW for the majority (count the
numbers in the results!) and if you do, you could not be surprised if
some of the unassisted ops who will have lost the ability to compete in
the section they choose, decide to take direct action.
