Clive,

Both mods add a 0.1 microfarad capacitor to the RF board so are the same in
that regard.

The W8JI adds a network containing two 0.1 microfarad capacitors in series
and a couple of pots to the IF board. The Inrad mod adds a single 0.47 micro
farad capacitor (which is the same as two 0.1 microfarad capacitors in
series) and a single fixed 100 Kohm resistor. Depending on the settings of
the two pots the W8JI mod could give a softer result, as you say, if this is
desired.

I saw someone put some pictures on the web showing the W8JI mod but with the
pots replaced by fixed resistors of the same value as the pots - I guess
that would be overdoing the softness.
