[UK-CONTEST] Heil Headset Question

As many of you will know I am decidedly not an SSB operator.
Therefore I am not constrained in the choice of headphones,
and use Sennheiser RF cordless cans which are supremely
comfortable compared to anything else I have ever used.
Furthermore, I can go downstairs and make coffee while still
"watching" my frequency. Certain other activities are also
possible, which it may not be politic to discuss here!

However, even I do occasionally need to make the odd SSB
QSO, but frankly balk at the awful audio quality produced by
Heil headsets with all their sibilance. To that end
therefore I use the headset marketed by Tony Welsh on ebay
( and his web site) available for ICOM (electret) and
Yaesu/Kenwood( dynamic). These are of excellent quality and
can be worn for several hours without discomfort, although
are not in the same class as the Sennheiser. The audio
quality from the mic. is also excellent and knocks the Heil
into the proverbial. These sell for a tad under $50 plus
carriage which is excellent value.

The Maplin BM10 seems to be obsolete on the web site now.
The instructions which came with my Heil PRO-SET Plus
mentioned the bit
about bending the headband.
I always adjust my headphone headbands so that they only
just prevent them
from moving if I lean forward, reducing the ear pressure to
virtually
nothing. I agree about the cloth covers, I found them hot
and
uncomfortable.

I agree, I like the BM10. I cannot wear the ProSet for more
than 2 or 3
hours. However, I did ask Bob Heil about this at Leicester
and he said that
it is possible (and recommended) to bend the main headset
strap (on the
ProSet) so that it becomes more comfortable. I have also
tried these socks
or boots that you can buy to cover the earphones and they
just make them
hotter and more uncomfortable

Don't forget the BM10 - I've used one for years, have tried
the others but
found them uncomfortable for serious contest sessions (CQWW,
WAE etc..).
About half the price of the pro-set too!

They appear every-so-often on Ebay, so grab yourself a
bargain!
