I do not think the AFS QRS corral or the CW club championships really helps the beginner to CW contests.

What we need is to bring back the QRS contest. It was the QRS test that got me hooked on CW contests.
I won my first ever certificate in 1994 taking 1st place in the Novice section as 2E0ACY.

The last 2 years the QRS Contest was running I had guest operators from the Reading club using my station (G8FIF and M1CYE/M3PGM). Helping them to understand the different format for the contest QSO. M3PGM won it one year.

The Club Championships finish in July, why not hold a 3 or 4 week session for the QRS test in August or September.

I do not think we do enough to encourage the beginner to CW contests.

What do you think
