Is there such a thing as a "non-elderly" G3 :-) G3Z** must be pretty close
to 40-yrs licensed so very late 50's now. In today's world not elderly by a
long way.
Interesting that having analysed the GB5HQ UK Participants over 3-years the
G3's not only are the most active in that contest but by far the largest
group who do both modes (CW/SSB). As for the 80m Club Championship might be
worth analyzing that one by mode as I suspect that the largest new recruits
to "Data Modes" could also be G3's.
Is it that most G3's are either retired and moved to pastures which allows
them to finally operate their hobby in peace rather than financial
constraints of growing families which pretty much means small gardens? In my
case and I know several others the answer was a definite yes. Having
contested and chased DX with handicaps I know I prefer to do it the easy way
and indulge in antennas which years ago I could only dream of. I also have
lots of new avenues to explore one of which is contesting done my way to
maximize the fun.
Just off for the Annual CCF Fun Cruise Helsinki/Stockholm to receive my
annual dose of "Brine and Breeze" ready for CQ160 and the ARRL CW. Perhaps
should read "Booze and Breeze" given previous efforts.
