[UK-CONTEST] AFS

During AFS SSB, I heard something along the lines of the following for the 
first time.

"Hi Bert, 59 123"

This was instead of "G5XYZ 59 123".

Mindful of Bob, 5B4AGN's recent comments, with which I am in agreement, I 
would still like to know if this is generally considered to be valid?  I'm 
guessing so, but a *ruling* would be nice to have for future reference.  It did make 
for a pretty slick contact!
