I think this must be our best year ever! Certainly the best FD I can
remember
Condition were just perfect for this contest with excellent E's openings
on 10m
into mainland EU for lots of portable QSO points. 160m was just
amazing. On all
bands noise levels were very low with us and we lost some QSO's with
other G's
not hearing us call them on the higher bands. We tried a QSO with
G3IZD/P on 10m
but they simply did not hear us despite them being a clear 529 with us.
Lots of support from Russian portables this year it seemed to us. Don't
remember
that in previous years. Not so many G portables out it seemed to us.
As for the WX what can I say? Just perfect. We arrived on site and on
talking
to the farmer he said it would not rain on us despite the forecast for
Sunday
being a bit damp. He was right of course.

Had a few problems with the generator before the contest, no output! Panic!
a quick strip down and Jan held a bit of emery paper on the
commutator while Steve slowly turned the generator over with the spark plug
taken off. Cured! Also had problems getting the cherry picker boom down
at the
end of the contest due to a blown fuse in the control unit.
Had some weird but not too serious problems with the computers this year.
For some reason the second computer kept loosing the band/mode information
at random intervals and ended up logging QSO's on esoteric bands like 10
GHz and SSB!!
This caused us to accidentally call some people more than once.

The only dark side was that the pub we visit on Friday night seems to have
gone down hill, with mediocre food and naff beer.
Steve had to bring ear defenders this year in an effort to get some sleep
on the Friday night with me and Jan doing our best to out-snore each
other:-)
Didn't work though, as he fell asleep at the rig on Saturday night..
See you all next year!
