'Ghastly Win98' - oh dear. There are many of us who consider 98 to be
the best operating system MS ever did and have gone rapidly downhill
since. My backup machine and the laptop I use for contesting are both
98SE machines and I see no point in upgrading them - despite what
some say it is a very stable system and still is very viable for many
applications. I have been using my current main PC with XP for around
6 months and can't really see what it offers me that 98 doesn't -
loads of gimmicks, a flash user interface long since turned off, no
evident increase in speed, and a 'nanny state' security system.
Progress, I don't think so. And the myth that you can't run DOS
programs on XP is not true, I have not come across any of my DOS
programs which won't run.
As for logging software, I have been a long time SD user. Simple to
use straight out of the box and very easy to produce the correct
Cabrillo for virtually anything. But I am a simple user, no keyboard
CW, no ESM (whatever that is) and no SO2R. Does everything I need,
why look elsewhere.
