It stands for Enter Sends Message. It lets you have CQ QSOs
without ever hitting a CW message key.
If you're running them (calling CQ) -
With an empty callsign field, Enter sends your CQ (F1) message.
With a callsign typed, Enter sends the callsign + exchange.
You don't have to type the full call before pressing enter.
For example M3A, then Enter, then BC will send M3ABC
followed by the exchange.
With the exchange typed, Enter sends TU + yourcall.
If you're calling them (Search & Pounce mode) -
With an empty callsign field, Enter sends yourcall.
With a callsign typed, Enter sends yourcall
With the exchange typed, Enter sends your xchange.
In SD, the apostrophe key toggles ESM On and Off. The
"Grave Accent" key (the one under Esc) toggles between
Run and S&P modes.
There are other options. In Run mode, you can set SD to
automatically start sending the callsign and exchange after
you type the 4th (or 3rd or 5th) callsign character - no
need to press Enter.
