One big, and possibly unseen, advantage of LOTW is an independant, offsite,
back up

I have not used it, but I understand it is possible to download your own log
BACK from LOTW.  This is because DXbase (possibly others) allows you to
import the LOTW log and show which ones are confirmed by LOTW, updating your
local logbook files.

So as long as you upload to LOTW regularly you (hopefully) have a pretty
safe fallback copy of your log book(s)

Lets hope no-one needs to use it!!
