Here are a few basic software tests if you're planning to operate
in CQWW.
Type F in an empty callsign field.
1. Does the software instantly identify the call as France
and display the bearing? YES/NO
2. Does the software instantly flag whether France would be
a country mult on this band? YES/NO
3. Does the software instantly flag whether Zone 14 would be
a zone mult on this band? YES/NO
4. Does the software instantly display a multiplier analysis,
for both France and Zone 14, by band? YES/NO
5. Does the software instantly pre-fill the Zone field, on
the logging line, with the zone? YES/NO
Add G to the callsign field.
6. Does the software instantly identify the call as Guadeloupe
and display the bearing? YES/NO
7. Does the software repeat 2, 3, 4, and 5 above for Guadeloupe
and Zone 8? YES/NO
You log the QSO with Guadeloupe.
8. Does the software instantly show the mult status, on this
band, for all South American countries? YES/NO
You want to check what countries are in (or you need) in a
particular zone. Type 1 in an empty callsign field.
9. Does the software instantly indicate if you need Alaska,
the only Zone 1 country, on this band? YES/NO
Add 4 to the callsign field.
10. Does the software instantly show worked/wanted status, on
this band, for all Zone 14 countries? YES/NO
With ESM enabled.
11. Does the software indicate, at all times, what the next
"Enter" message (if any) will be - in both Run and S&P modes?
(Not just the message number) YES/NO
Data Entry.
12. If you delete a single field by mistake, can you retrieve it?
without re-typing? YES/NO
13. If your answer to 12 is YES, can you do it with a single
keystroke? YES/NO
14. Does the software let you select, or toggle between, Insert
and Overwrite data entry modes at any time? YES/NO
Data Entry - Callsign field.
15. Can you select a data entry mode whereby you're in overwrite
mode at all times (convenient for changing characters without
the need to delete) except when the cursor is at the start of
the field, when the mode changes to insert for as long as you
stay at the start of the field?. YES/NO
Superfluous? No, efficient.
Rig Control - moving stations.
16. You're running on 14027, when you work a station that would
be a multiplier on 15m. You agree to a QSO on 21056, and
you complete it. Can you return to 14027 without touching
the rig or using more than two keystrokes? YES/NO
Editing previously logged QSOs.
17. You have a second (or subsequent) QSO with UA6QAM, and you
realise you logged the wrong zone earlier. It should have
been 16, not 17. When you edit the zone, does the software
correct the zone on all QSOs with UA6QAM? YES/NO
18. If the answer to 17 is YES (unlikely), does the software
look for other QSOs, on all bands you logged UA6QAM, and
instantly flag or unflag other zone 16 and 17 QSOs as mults
where necessary to maintain a consistent log and a correct
score? YES/NO
Marks out of 18 please for your favourite logger.
SD is handy for single-op unassisted entries.
